Well, obviously, that's not what they say, they pull you in with a promise that you will learn the tips and tricks they use. But is it true? or is it a glorified attempt to build up a mailing list, whip up a little drama and then flog you an affiliate product or two?
Don't know what the hell I'm on about? Nope. Didn't think so.
Well, basically, John Cow and Garry Conn are having a little make money online walk-off (oops, did I link them up the wrong way round there? ;) ).
Garry Conn (gotta love that surname for a marketing man eh?) started things off in one of his posts by saying that the Cow was serving up crap, spinning the same info as everyone else not providing good mmo tips and calling the Cow and asshole. This is doubly ammusing because of Conn's previous post on the how the mmo world is basically a bunch of people spinning the same stuff over and over again.
Well the Cow responded and challenged the Conn to a bit of online fisticufs. Now they are engaged in a competition to see who can actually make more money online. Of course, to follow the battle, you have to sign up. You can do this from either blog, and theoretically, you'll get different information from each one, based on their individual strategies.
You can't tell me we are meant to take this seriously? I mean come on. If these guys were really at each other's throats in the online world, would they be linking to each other, sending traffic over and providing exposure to each other?
The hell they would! No chance.
There's even a rumour going around that Garry Conn is writing for the Cow! Conn blogged about it to add fuel to the fire.....I don't know....I almost wish the rumour was true; it would be funny if the Cow and the Conn were the same guy, because he would have successfully cross pollinated his readership with a very cunning ruse. And make money online blogs are all about readers. Getting as many as possible. And then selling them stuff :). In a compassionate, scrupulous way of coures.
Was the whole thing engineered from the start? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe Conn really didn't like Cow and chastised him and Cow knew a good thing when he saw it. It's not the first time Cow has done something like this. He had a similar thing with John Chow (the site he is parodying) a while back, which could only have garnered him a whole bunch of new readers.
I don't read Conn's blog that often. I've dipped in and out of Cow's for a while......I liked the whole cheeky parody site thing - in fact I think it was a brilliant bit of marketing to do the parody.
Before you crap on me, lemme say that I have nothing against these guys. I think they will probably get a little buzz going and get some cross-readership on their blogs, which is what it is all about. Good for them! There is a lot of cunning marketing going on there. Sign up to Garry's version of events here....I've already linked the Cow up previous-like.....
